Interest Point after three straight at Sandown races

Interest Point will attempt to stretch his winning sequence to three for Mornington trainers David Brideoake and Matt Jenkins when he lines up at Sandown.

If successful in the Sportsbet Set A Deposit Limit Handicap (1000m) on Saturday, it may see Brideoake, who bred the colt and retains a share in the two-year-old, aim higher with a potential spring campaign in mind.

Interest Point scored on debut at Mornington on May 13 and backed that up with a narrow victory at Caulfield on June 1, lowering the colours of Blue Renegade who meets the Brideokae and Jenkins-trained galloper on better weight terms.

“I’m hopeful he is capable of handling the weight change with Blue Renegade,” Brideoake told RSN.

“We’re basically 2-½ kilos worse than we were two weeks ago, and the margin was only a head, so he will need to have improved.

“I’m confident to give him one more and then give him a bit of a let-up and maybe he might find himself in a race in the spring.

“It’s all pretty exciting when you have a nice one like this.”

Interest Point scored over 1000m at Mornington before stepping up to 1100m at Caulfield.

Brideoake said he was not concerned coming back 1000m, adding the colt had shown versatility in his two wins to date.

“I think he’ll get 1400 metres as he’s quite laidback,” Brideoake said.

“He can take up a position. He led at his first start, he won. He had the one-one at Caulfield and probably got a bit lost when he hit the front.

“It’s all pretty new to him and I thought by having three runs, that would put him on the map and make him a little more race savvy.

“It is a non-claiming race. I love that 1000 metres at Sandown. It’s the best 1000 metres in Melbourne and it’s part of the growing process with these babies.”
