The Bombers went into the bye with a sour taste from their loss against the Blues the previous week, but are still sitting pretty in fourth, looking to cement an AFL finals spot with nine of their last ten games in Melbourne.

The Eagles have shown glimpses of good and bad this year, and the last few games have shown the glaring deficiencies in their game to limit opposition scores.

They’ll be without Harley Reid again this weekend as he serves the second and final week of his suspension, so the added bit of spark will need to be found elsewhere.

Essendon were outworked around the contest against the Blues, and it was probably fitting of how they play in contrast to what most believe that they play with an edge.

They’re an uncontested team, and for the most part, it’s effective against the lower-ranked sides, where a bit of run and carry opening up the corridor can generate a lot of inside 50 entries, which will be the way they look to attack West Coast.

These two sides met back in Round 8, and the Bombers were able to hold on by a goal after facing a late West Coast surge, but if we go back to last year, the Eagles nearly pulled off an upset, going down by a point at Marvel.

West Coast needs to find a bit more poise around the contest, and that’s been the difference between their best and worst, which puts pressure on their centre stoppage craft.

Early scoreboard pressure from the Dons puts this game to bed early, but the longer the Eagles stay in touch, the more 50/50 this clash becomes.

With a full Essendon crowd at Marvel, there’s really no excuse to let this one slip.
