The new primetime slot of 4:35pm on a Saturday is serving up a must-watch Elimination Final-like contest with Hawthorn and Collingwood playing for almost their season.
Realistically, the loser is all but gone in 2024, having to play catchup for the remainder of the season, with their chances not helped thanks to a tough run home.
Hawthorn has proven to be Collingwoods bogey team for the last decade, even proven last year when the league leaders were taken down by Hawthorn.
Whilst both teams sit on the same number of points, 12th and 13th, but weirdly feel on either side of the spectrum when it comes to form and competitiveness.
Collingwoods offensive patterns have been ineffective, and the reluctance to change their game plan has continued to let them down.
Hawthorn on the other hand have had quite a good balance, frantic with their offensive movement to get good looks inside, whether its to their bigs or smalls.
Hawthorn sits fourth in the competition for disposal efficiency, whilst the Pies sit second last, so pressure around the contest from the Hawks will limit Collingwoods output.
The Pies have been beaten by uncontested systems the last fortnight, and the Hawks capitalise on that exact style, which isnt ideal in their form.
The Hawks ran the tag on Nick Daicos at the MCG last year, and it could be the way to go again.
Hawthorn was one kick away from beating the Pies in Gather Round at their worst, so hard to see them dropping this game in such emphatic form.
