Collingwood needs to beat the Dees by at least 100 points, hope the Blues lose to the Saints by around 100 points, and hope the Dockers lose.

Melbourne’s emphatic win against the Suns away from home last week indicates they probably won’t roll over against the Pies, and it’s a matchup they’ve had little success in over the past few years.

Collingwood’s season has been odd, they’ve won games they shouldn’t have, but also lost games they should’ve won, but could never establish pure dominance at any stage this year.

Their win against the Lions last week was pure cinema, clinching it at the death, and making use of the star quality they possess.

Earlier this year, the Dees were incredibly inaccurate in their King’s Birthday clash, which has become a trend in their recent games against the Pies, kicking themselves out of it even whilst dominating possession.

The Dees need to challenge the Pies in transition to find similar goal-scoring output like they saw against the Suns, and they’ve proven they can break the Pies open inside forward 50.

Collingwood was shut down around the contest against the Lions and only got things going when there was no pressure on them, down by a few goals or so.

Given the stakes of the game, it should be high-scoring and free-flowing, but given recent records between the two sides, the Pies will find a way to win, because they always do against the Dees.
