Suitable trip first-up for Kalasec at Murray Bridge races

There is no doubt that Kalasec is a consistent horse as far as Richard Jolly is concerned, if only he won more often.

Jolly has, like many of his training peers, had a busy time on at the Magic Millions sales this week but he is looking forward to his team stepping out closer to home at Murray Bridge on Saturday.

Kalasec was bought at the 2022 Gold Coast Yearling Sale by Jolly for $120,000 and while the now four-year-old did not make it back there 12 months later, the gelding has since delivered two wins and ten placings in 18 outings.

Kalasec’s last win was two weeks shy of one year ago at Morphettville.

This time, Kalasec is rated a $6 chance across markets in the Greg Peters 70th Birthday Handicap over 1000-metres with the Phillip Stokes-trained Wakanjeja the $5 favourite in an open race.

“He’s had a couple of jump outs and he normally races reasonably well fresh,” Jolly said.

“I think last time in he started first-up in a six-furlong race which I think is a bit ambitious first-up.

“He runs well no matter where you put him, really, he just runs a lot of bloody placings.”

Kalasec is rated a $6 chance in betting across markets in the Greg Peters 70th Birthday Handicap over 1000-metres with the Phillip Stokes-trained Wakanjeja the $5 favourite in an open race.

In the final event, the Carlton Draught Handicap (1400m), Jolly and training partner Chantelle have Tipsy Vixen second-up after a third placing at Morphettville on December 28.

“She ran really good first-up,” Jolly said.

“She’s a tiny mare but a really game racehorse. She’s one to follow and she’s in at the right time.”
