Lions great Simon Black enjoyed a trouble-free comeback for the Brisbane reserves on Saturday but isn’t pushing his case for an immediate AFL return.
Black showed some nice touch and had 26 disposals as his knee came through unscathed in an 81-point win over Broadbeach at Coorparoo’s Giffin Park.
The veteran midfielder admitted he felt like a nervous “young kid” before his first match in eight months and was highly relieved to finish the game without incident.
“The knee went really well and I was really surprised how well it went,” he said.
“Hopefully in three or four weeks I can find my match fitness.”
Black is only an outside chance of making his AFL return against Melbourne next Sunday at the Gabba.
“I assume it will be another game (in the reserves) so we’ll see what happens,” he said.
“I’m probably on the fence a little bit. No doubt another run would be beneficial but I’m neither here nor there to be honest.”
Lions teammate Brent Staker also came through his long-awaited return from a second knee reconstruction, with 15 touches and a goal in the 20.17 (137) to 7.14 (56) victory.
Aaron Cornelius also pressed for promotion to the seniors with six goals while James Polkinghorne had a game-high 38 disposals and Jesse O’Brien had 21 touches, made seven tackles and kicked three goals.
