Crows AFL coach praises GWS’s Cameron

Greater Western Sydney’s Jeremy Cameron will turn into an unstoppable forward force, according to Adelaide AFL coach Brenton Sanderson.

But Sanderson says he has the defensive weapon – Daniel Talia – to quell Cameron when the Giants host Adelaide on Sunday.

Sanderson says the personal duel between two of the most brilliant young players in the competition will be a highlight of the Skoda Stadium encounter.

“Cameron versus Talia would be a really juicy match-up for the fans,” Sanderson said.

“We know this kid (Cameron) has got tons of raw talent and that will be a match-up that footy purists will be looking at with a fair bit of interest.”

Cameron, aged 20, kicked six goals last week against competition pacesetters Essendon.

But the attacking Giant will be pitted against the miserly 21-year-old Talia, who last year won the AFL’s Rising Star award and last week kept Hawthorn megastar Lance Franklin goalless.

Both players appear evenly matched: Talia is one centimetre taller and weighs four kilograms more than Cameron, who Sanderson believes is set for superstardom.

“Cameron is a star – he already is,” Sanderson said.

“When this (GWS) side gets up and running, he’s going to be almost unstoppable.

“But we obviously rate our boy, too. Tails is an absolute ripper and his job last week on Franklin was just exceptional.”

Adelaide captain Nathan van Berlo will return from a three-week layoff with a knee injury as the Crows try to put their season back on course after only two wins from their initial six games.

The Giants, still chasing their first win of the season, made five changes including evergreen ruck Dean Brogan returning from his three-match suspension.

“Brogan was in good form earlier in the season and it’s great to regain his experience and add some support for Jon Giles in the ruck,” GWS coach Kevin Sheedy said.

GWS also recalled Lachie Whitfield after a week off with soreness, Adam Kennedy returns from illness while Curtly Hampton and Tomas Bugg were dropped for the Giants’ first game at Skoda Stadium this season.
