Pakistan defeated Afghanistan by seven wickets in the first-ever one-day international between the two countries at Sharjah Stadium on Friday.
Leg-spinner Shahid Afridi took 5-36 to restrict Afghanistan to 195 before Pakistan romped home in the 38th over with Younis Khan hitting an unbeaten 70 and Imran Farhat scoring 52 as the hosts reached 3-198.
For Afghanistan, Karim Sadiq top-scored with 40 while Mohammad Nabi (37) and Samiullah Shinwari (32) also contributed.
Despite the loss, Afghanistan still put up an inspired display, justifying their rise in international cricket which saw them win the right to play one-dayers in 2009.
