Rebels’ Mitchell suspended for one week

Melbourne Rebels winger Lachlan Mitchell will miss his side’s final remaining Super Rugby fixture after being found guilty of a dangerous lifting tackle on British and Irish Lions winger Simon Zebo.

Mitchell was cited in the 52nd minute during his side’s 35-0 loss to the Lions at AAMI Park on Tuesday night.

Usually a four week offence, Judicial Officer Nigel Hampton QC said the incident was at the lowest level and cited Mitchell’s good on-field record for reducing the penalty to one match.

The suspension rules Mitchell out of the 12th placed Rebels’ final Super Rugby game of the season against the Highlanders on July 12.
