Suns’ Thompson cleared by scans

Gold Coast AFL defender Rory Thompson has been cleared of any internal injuries after undergoing scans in Cairns.

Thompson was stretchered off and taken to hospital after a heavy collision with Richmond’s Matthew Arnot in the third quarter of his team’s loss at Cazaly’s Stadium.

“Rory remained in Cairns last night to receive further medical attention and to undergo scans,” said Suns football operations manager Marcus Ashcroft on Sunday.

“Fortunately the scans revealed that Rory had suffered no internal damage.

“However he does have some bruising of the chest which our medical team will monitor that throughout the week, but we remain optimistic that Rory will be available for selection this week.”
