They were West Coast icons of the 1990s, but Guy McKenna and John Worsfold still aren’t entirely convinced about the merits of each other’s AFL playing careers.

McKenna and Worsfold played crucial roles in defence during West Coast’s premiership campaigns of 1992 and ’94.

Worsfold has since snared another premiership as coach of the Eagles, while McKenna is in his third year at the helm of Gold Coast and has built a list that has the potential to become a powerhouse in the not-too-distant future.

The pair have remained good friends since the end of their decorated playing days, but they love nothing more than taking the mickey out of each other.

When Worsfold was asked about McKenna’s role in West Coast’s renowned back six during the 90s, he quipped: “Yeah back six. He was probably the seventh.”

When McKenna was told about Worsfold’s comments, he replied: “Well he says the best back six. I used to think it was the best one (me), plus five others.

“I can’t actually remember Woosh playing down there at any stage. Or certainly playing on anyone.”

McKenna came out on the losing end against his former coach Mick Malthouse in last week’s defeat to Carlton.

He hopes for a different outcome when his Suns attempt to upset West Coast at Patersons Stadium on Saturday.

“I tried to put a few more grey hairs in Mick’s head last week but that didn’t unfold. Hopefully I can whack a few grey hairs in Woosha’s head this week,” McKenna said.

“I used to do it one-on-one when we trained together, because I used to always beat him physically one-on-one. Hopefully I can beat him in the coaches’ box this weekend.”
