Marc Leishman will be chasing his first win on home soil in five years at this year’s Australian PGA Championship on the Gold Coast.
The Victorian on Friday confirmed he would join compatriot and Masters champion Adam Scott at the Royal Pines tournament from November 7-10, barely a day after earning a spot in the International team for the upcoming Presidents Cup.
Leishman has not won on the PGA Tour of Australasia since the 2008 Victorian PGA Championship.
“I’ve won on the Web.com Tour and the PGA Tour now, but to win at home in my own country in one of the big events is definitely high on the list of things I want to achieve – and hopefully I can get it done at the PGA,” Leishman said in a statement.
“Scotty’s going to be back there too, so to have the Masters champion playing in the event amongst other Tour players is great.
“All the Aussie boys that are heading back are looking forward to it.”
With American Rickie Fowler also confirmed to play, chief executive of the PGA of Australia Brian Thorburn said the field was shaping well for the tournament’s first year on the Gold Coast.
“It’s building to be a big week both on and off the golf course and we’re really looking forward to the PGA Tour of Australasia’s return to the Gold Coast,” Thorburn said.
After Leishman makes his Presidents Cup debut at Muirfield Village in Ohio from October 3-6 – playing alongside Scott and fellow Australian Jason Day – he will head to Shanghai for the WGC-HSBC Champions before returning home for the Australian PGA Championship.
