There’s no point crying over spilt milk, but the WACA have more than $3 million reasons for tears after they were left off the Test calendar for Australia’s 2014-15 summer of cricket.
The WACA have hosted a Test match every summer since 1977-78, but have been controversially left off the schedule for India’s four-Test tour Down Under next year.
Instead, the iconic Perth venue will be granted up to four more one-day and Twenty20 internationals.
But that’s of little consolation to the WACA, with chief executive Christina Matthews predicting the absence of a Test could cost the organisation between $3 million and $5 million.
India will play Test matches at the SCG, MCG, Adelaide Oval and Gabba during the four-Test series.
“The ongoing effect this loss will have on the WACA and cricket in Western Australia will be devastating,” Matthews said.
“We are extremely disappointed by the decision, not only for the Association, but for our members and WA cricket supporters.
“We will continue talks with CA and will be seeking an understanding from them of all the elements behind the decision.”
