Health forces Eagle Daniher to step back

West Coast football operations manager Neale Daniher has been forced to scale back his commitments at the AFL club due to ill health.

Daniher announced his intention to pull back at a staff meeting on Thursday morning, with the club’s list manager Craig Vozzo to be elevated to the role.

The former Demons’ coach has been at West Coast for five years, but said he needed to make his health a priority.

Daniher didn’t reveal the nature of his ailment.

“Unfortunately, I do need to focus a lot of energy on my own health and well being at this stage,” Daniher said.

“The role of football operations general manager is quite demanding.

“I don’t believe I could commit the time needed to be effective, so it is important to recognise that and bring someone in who can contribute as required.

“I will assist Craig during the transition period and will remain with the club, doing what I can to ensure we improve quickly.”

Daniher’s decision to step back is another blow to the Eagles, who have lost senior coach John Worsfold, assistant David Teague and strategist Phil Walsh over the past fortnight.
