Kyrgios to replace Hewitt in doubles

Australia have pulled a selection surprise with teenager Nick Kyrgios named to replace Lleyton Hewitt in Saturday’s doubles rubber in the World Group playoff against Poland.

Kyrgios, 18, will make his Davis Cup debut as he partners Chris Guccione against specialist Polish duo Marcin Matkowski and Mariusz Fyrstenberg in Warsaw.

Australia lead the best-of-five claycourt tie 2-0 after Hewitt and Bernard Tomic won their singles matches on Friday.

Hewitt and Tomic will back up for the reverse singles on Sunday if required.

The winner of the tie qualifies for the World Group in 2014, with Australia bidding to return to the competition’s top tier for the first time since 2007.
