Another young Lion asks for AFL trade

Brisbane have not given up on retaining Elliot Yeo despite the youngster becoming the latest player at the AFL club to request a trade.

Yeo, 19, wants to return home to Western Australia.

The news came after Lions’ teammates Patrick Karnezis (Victoria) and Jared Polec (South Australia) also asked to be traded, preferably to their native states.

But Lions’ national talent manager Rob Kerr took to Twitter to state their desire to keep Yeo.

“Despite Elliot Yeo expressing his desire to head home to Western Australia, we regard him as a required player at the Brisbane Lions,” he tweeted.

“We value Elliot highly as both a player and a person and, as such, we will be focused on retaining his services.”

Yeo has played 27 games in two seasons since being taken with pick No.30 in the 2011 AFL Draft.

It is believed Victorians James Polkinghorne, Billy Longer and Sam Docherty are also contemplating leaving.

Their decision looks set to hinge on who the Lions appoint to replace ousted coach Michael Voss.
