Docker Pavlich relieved after prelim win

Fremantle skipper Matthew Pavlich says the Dockers aren’t getting carried away despite qualifying for Saturday’s AFL grand final against Hawthorn.

The Dockers booked their place in the decider with a 25-point win over Sydney in Saturday night’s preliminary final in Perth.

It’s the first time Fremantle have reached the grand final in their 19-year history, with the club now well placed to claim their first piece of silverware.

Pavlich said the players were enjoying the moment, but were also wary of the need to prepare well ahead of the biggest match of their lives.

“Right now it’s a fair bit of relief and excitement about the week ahead,” Pavlich said on Sunday.

“It’s all about staying in the moment and not getting too carried away with what may be.

“Clearly it’s taken a long time for the club to get to this point, so the guys will soak up the week and enjoy it.

“We won’t shy away from some of the distractions that are inevitable in a week like this.

“But clearly the important part is to stay focused and not to change our physical and mental preparation which has got us to this point.”
