Hawks’ premiership player Guerra retires

Hawthorn dual AFL premiership defender Brent Guerra has retired.

Guerra, 31, played 255 AFL games with Port Adelaide, St Kilda and Hawthorn.

His career, which began with the Power in 2000, included the Hawks’ 2008 and 2013 premierships.

“Brent has not only been an excellent servant of this footy club but has made a wonderful contribution to the game of AFL footy,” Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson said.

“I have admired Brent’s ability to combine the tough and fierce elements of his game, that have been beautifully complemented by his exquisite foot skills and finesse, and I congratulate him on a distinguished career.”

Guerra joins Lance Franklin, who plans to head to Sydney on a nine-year deal, as departing members of the team which won Saturday’s grand final against Fremantle.
