The Wez Hunter-trained Smokin’ Joey is the clear favourite for Saturday’s Group one Railway Stakes at Ascot after drawing perfectly in gate seven.

The six-year-old has shortened from $4.80 into $4.60 following Tuesday’s barrier draw.

Meanwhile two of his main rivals Fire Up Fifi and Plucky Belle eased in betting after drawing wide in barriers 18 and 14 respectively.

“Smokin’ Joey has drawn perfectly in barrier seven and as a result we’ve wound him in to $4.60 from $4.80,” Betstar’s Alan Eskander said.

“He was caught wide from the 1000 metre mark in the Emirates, but this barrier should allow Jason Benbow to sit midfield or just worse with cover and get a lovely trail into the race.

“Fire Up Fifi has got the visitor’s draw with barrier 18. Jockey Damian Browne will have no option but to go back on this classy mare. She will be giving a big start to some quality opposition, which makes her task that much harder so in turn she’s been $6.50 out to $7. Plucky Belle has also drifted out to $8 from $7.50.”

Longport is equal second in betting alongside Fire Up Fifi, while Mr Moet has drifted from $11 out to $13 after drawing gate 20.
