Arrowfield’s brilliant young sires Snitzel and Charge Forward provided the winner and the runner-up in today’s $200,000 Ballarat TC Magic Millions Clockwise Classic.
Snitzel’s striking chestnut daughter Sheer Style started favourite and soon took control of the race, but did not relish the heavy ground and showed plenty of grit in the straight to withstand the determined challenge of Charge Forward’s son Geromayo.
Sheer Style eventually drew clear to win by a length, and break her maiden with a $120,000 winner’s cheque that should qualify her for January’s $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic. The win followed Sheer Style’s excellent seconds behind Bold Circle at Rosehill last month, and Earthquake at Randwick on 9 November.
Sheer Style was bred by Corumbene Stud from 2YO city winner Jolie (by Rory Jester’s son Armidale) and purchased at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale for $255,000 by trainer Garry Frazer on behalf of owner W.H. Hilton. Corumbene’s 2014 Magic Millions draft includes a three-quarter sister to Sheer Style, by Not A Single Doubt.
Arrowfield graduate Geromayo (Charge Forward-Opportunity by Redoute’s Choice) was purchased from the same sale for $42,500 by Newlands Thoroughbreds. Charge Forward has 16 yearlings in this season’s Magic Millions Gold Coast catalogue, five of them offered by Arrowfield.
Sntzel’s eight 2YO runners this season now include 5 winners, headed by Group 3 winners Oakleigh Girl and Golconda, and he leads two other sons of Redoute’s Choice, Not A Single Doubt & Mutawaajid, on the Australian 2YO Sires’ list.
