Polanski a chance to resume in Orr Stakes 2014

Victoria Derby winner Polanksi could make his return in weight-for-age company on his way to the Australian Guineas and the Australian Derby.

Robbie Laing is considering the Group One CF Orr Stakes, and also the Futurity Stakes, against older horses as options for the three-year-old.

Star colt All Too Hard won both weight-for-age races last season.

“I haven’t locked it in, but it could be the C F Orr Stakes,” Laing said about Polanski’s return.

“Or the Futurity, the races the three-year-old All Too Hard won.

“I know he (All Too Hard) was a great three-year-old, and my horse is promising, so I haven’t discarded those types of races as a lead-up to the Australian Guineas.”

The C F Orr (1400m) is on February 8 at Caulfield and the Futurity is two weeks later.

The Australian Guineas (1600m) is at Flemington on March 1.

Laing plans to run Polanski second-up in the Australian Guineas with the $2 million Australian Derby in Sydney in April the main autumn mission.

Polanski emerged during the spring with wins in Listed and Group company before taking out the Group One Victoria Derby.

The colt had a good spell after his spring success and Laing has been delighted with his progress.

He said Polanski had grown about half an inch to 16.2 hands and had put on weight.

“He was 510 kilos when he won the Derby. He’s 540 kilos now and he’s just big and powerful,” Laing said.
