In less than two weeks, Gold Coast’s Matt Rowell has shortened from $81 to $8 third favourite at TAB to win the 2020 Brownlow Medal.
Rowell was not priced in our Brownlow Medal market before his best-on-ground performance in Round 2 when Gold Coast stunned West Coast and was still $81 before the Suns defeated Adelaide in Round 3.
Rowell was $21 before Gold Coast accounted for Fremantle last Saturday night and only has Lachie Neale ($5) and Patrick Cripps ($7) ahead of him in TAB’s Brownlow Medal market.
“The immediate impact that Rowell has made on this year’s Brownlow Medal betting has not occurred in another home-and-away season since Michael Barlow’s meteoric rise in 2010,” TAB’s Trent Langskaill said.
“According to records kept by Gary Davies, Barlow was backed from $1001 to $9 second favourite to win the 2010 Brownlow Medal before his leg injury in Round 13 against Port Adelaide.”
