It’s been near-impossible to work out the Crows and Dockers so far, and it appears as though the bookies are having an equally tough time judging by the market.
Fresh from a stirring Showdown win over Port Adelaide that saw Izak Rankine kick four goals, the Crows are set to start slight favourites at home against a Fremantle side fresh from their own rivalry win over West Coast.
After playing some decent footy in patches, Matthew Nicks’ men finally put together a solid four-quarter performance that was headlined by Rankine’s magic, another dazzling display from second-year star Josh Rachele, and a breakout five-goal bag from emerging forward, Riley Thilthorpe.
Freo, on the other hand, simply squeezed the life out of the injury-ravaged Eagles, but no one can take away from Michael Frederick and Michael Walters – the pair combining for six goals to put a brief pause on suggestions that the Dockers can’t score points.
Looking ahead, this game is arguably one of the toughest to tip, largely due to the inconsistencies of the two sides.
Fremantle has won three in a row over the Crows dating back to the 2020 season, but it’s worth noting the last two games have been decided by two goals or less – last year’s meeting also coming down to a single point.
Looking at the stats, the Crows have a definite edge when it comes to scoring points, but I am wary of the fact the Dockers remain one of the best pressure teams in the competition.
Overall, I think this could be a real back-and-forth kind of game, so I’m playing it safe and backing either team to lead at the end of each quarter.
