Crows coach Matthew Nicks has to be disappointed with last week’s effort on the Gold Coast.

The final score did Adelaide some justice, but it was largely a no-show from a team that many fancied to make finals after missing out only narrowly last year.

A trip home could be just what the doctor ordered, but another flat first-half performance won’t fly against a Cats team riding the highs of last week’s nail-biting win over the Saints.

Geelong knuckled down when it mattered against St Kilda, winning most of the important statistical categories alongside a handy three-goal bag from emerging forward, Ollie Dempsey.

Overall, though, the Cats seemed to lack the extra gear that we’ve come to expect from them in the last decade, and it’s fair to say they may have lost that game against a team that was more capable of scoring goals.

Compared to St Kilda, the Crows pack more of a punch in the forward half of the ground, while it’s worth noting their dominance at home last season losing three of their four games to teams that finished inside the eight.

I don’t feel great about either team on the back of last week but based on how the Crows responded to such a big first-half deficit against the Suns, they are probably rightful favourites here at home.
