AFL Demons youngster Viney injures jaw

Melbourne’s former No.1 draft pick Jack Watts responded to his demotion to VFL by booting four goals in Casey’s 46-point win over the Cats at Geelong’s Simonds Stadium on Saturday.

The 21-year-old forward, who was the No.1 draft pick in 2008, gathered 20 possessions in an encouraging display on wing and half-forward.

However the win was marred by 18-year-old Jack Viney and fellow youngster Jordan Gysberts suffering suspected broken jaws.

Viney, who will be drafted by the Demons as a father-son pick later this year, was on debut for Casey.

The son of former Demons skipper Todd Viney received a heavy bump from Cats premiership player David Wojcinski during the last quarter of Saturday’s VFL game.

Gysberts, who was the No.11 draft pick in 2009, left the ground after a heavy knock in the first term.

Demons forward Liam Jurrah, on the comeback trail from a wrist injury, kicked a goal in the final quarter.
