Gavin Wanganeen has become the first Aboriginal player to join an AFL club’s board.
Wanganeen has been appointed to Port Adelaide’s board, the club he captained after winning a premiership and Brownlow medal at Essendon.
“Port Adelaide is where it all began for me so it means a lot to be able to represent the members and drive the club forward,” Wanganeen said in a statement on Friday.
