Richmond have dumped star forward Jack Riewoldt from their leadership group, which will again be headed by skipper Trent Cotchin.
Ex-Port Adelaide defender Troy Chaplin, who finished third in Richmond’s Jack Dyer Medal in 2013 in his first season at Tigerland, has been added to the leadership group.
Ruckman Ivan Maric and last year’s club champion Daniel Jackson are also part of the five-man leadership panel.
Halfback and two-time club champion Brett Deledio will be vice-captain to midfielder Cotchin, who’s also a former two-time club champion.
Two-time Coleman medallist Riewoldt and defender Dylan Grimes are the two players who’ve been omitted from the leadership group.
“Given the improved maturity of the team, we believe a five-player leadership group is a sufficient representation of the playing list,” Richmond coach Damien Hardwick told richmondfc.com.au on Tuesday.
“We are proud of the way Trent (Cotchin) embraced the captaincy in his first year, and we’re confident he will continue to be a strong leader on and off the field, along with Brett (Deledio) as vice-captain.
“Troy Chaplin’s inclusion in the leadership group highlights the impact he has had on the group in a short period of time, and is a reflection of his strong character, and qualities as a person, which were things we identified when we recruited him to the club.”
