Collingwood forward Alex Fasolo has a foot fracture which could keep him out for the rest of the AFL season.
The 20-year-old will have surgery this week after scans for what was initially thought to be a minor injury revealed a fracture of the navicular bone in his right foot.
“Unfortunately, the news wasn’t good and Alex will have surgery in the next couple of days,” Magpies director of football Geoff Walsh said.
“Given the nature of the injury it’s likely that he will miss most, if not all, of the rest of the season.
“We’re sure Alex will do everything right in terms of his rehabilitation, which should give him some hope for 2013, but there can be no rush with an injury of this kind.”
Fasolo, who has kicked 45 goals in his 40 AFL games and was equal-second on the club’s goal tally last year, has played only three matches this season after an injury-restricted pre-season.
