Gold Coast have received a massive boost ahead of their AFL clash against fellow expansion outfit Greater Western Sydney, with young gun Harley Bennell re-signing with the Suns until the end of 2014.
Bennell, 19, has been a shining light for the Suns so far in 2012, booting three spectacular goals and almost lifting them to a shock home win over Fremantle last weekend.
“I’m rapt to re-sign with the Suns,” said Bennell.
“I have got a lot of mates here, I’m enjoying my footy and I believe we are building something pretty special.”
Bennell joined the Suns from WAFL club Peel Thunder.
He follows fellow Gold Coast youngsters David Swallow, Sam Day, Tom Lynch, Brandon Matera, Jeremy Taylor, Luke Russell, Jaeger O’Meara and Alex Sexton, who have also signed contract extensions taking them through until 2014.
The Giants host the Suns in Canberra on Saturday, with both sides still searching for their first win of the campaign.
