Carlton coach Brett Ratten has called for more uniformity between the AFL and VFL with their tribunals and fixturing.
The differences between the two league’s tribunal systems are in the spotlight following the VFL suspension handed to Geelong defender David Wojcinski.
His advocate said during Tuesday night’s hearing that Wojcinski was caught between the two systems.
Wojcinski – who is serving one-game and two-game suspensions concurrently – will not be eligible to return to the AFL until early June because the Geelong VFL outfit has two byes in the next four weeks.
“We have to get on the same page, don’t we?” Ratten said.
“The penalties have to be the same from AFL to VFL.
“We have to make sure that players, whether they’re playing AFL or VFL, have the same penalties.”
Carlton have a direct affiliation with VFL side the Northern Blues and Ratten is also concerned about the difference in fixturing between the two leagues.
“It would be nice to to get the fixture … close to the same as well – that would be another issue,” he said.
“We’ve had six games and our VFL have had three byes.
“That makes it very hard for AFL teams to be a participant in a second-tier competition that doesn’t run the same as an AFL system.”
