Bombers’ Fantasia fit to take on Giants

Gun Essendon small forward Orazio Fantasia says he’s fit to face the in-form Giants despite limited training this week.

Ahead of their Marvel Stadium clash on Thursday night, Fantasia has been on light duties, training away from the main Bombers group this week.

Fantasia has missed five matches this season and has been battling general soreness on top of a recent quad strain.

Despite his interrupted preparation the 23-year-old said he would be available to help his 10th place team try keep in touch with the top eight.

GWS have won four of their past five games to sit in fourth spot.

“Everyone carries something throughout a game or a season so it’s just about managing that,” Fantasia told Channel Nine.

“I can’t do too much training otherwise I go into games a bit sorer than I’d like so it’s just about preparing my week a bit differently.”

Martin Gleeson will play his first game in 656 days as he comes in for injured Bombers defender Matt Guelfi.

Gleeson suffered a serious foot injury during last year’s pre-season that kept him sidelined for all of 2018.

He then suffered a fractured cheekbone before impressing in the VFL to earn a recall.

Veteran midfielder David Zaharakis will play his 200th game but said a win was more important than his milestone.

While there was plenty of belief within the squad, Zaharakis admitted that needed to be backed up by competition points to take the pressure off his team and coach John Worsfold.

“It’s a results-based business so you’ve got to win games,” Zaharakis said.

“We don’t try to focus on that, that’s for the external – like media and fans.

“We are more looking at how we play each week and we want to try to rectify how we played against West Coast last week as we were quite disappointed.”
