There is a certain symmetry between these two clubs in 2024, with both having seasons where at times it felt like the sky was the limit but are likely to be left feeling empty come the final siren.

It’s slightly better for the Lions, who will see September action, but their loss against the Pies has almost certainly knocked them out of double chance action.

The Bombers were punished by the Swans for poor efficiency inside forward 50, and this trip to the Gabba might just see a similar final round performance to last year where they were belted by the Pies.

The depth in talent the Lions possess still makes them a capable premiership threat, but having to go through four teams instead of three to a Grand Final will really test their mental strength.

In the context of this clash, it’s simply won and lost through the midfield, and the Lions go a lot deeper in that department.

Up forward it’s hard to see the likes of Ben McKay and Jayden Laverde stopping Joe Daniher and Eric Hipwood, so the Bombers will need to outscore the Lions rather than defend a winning score.

The Bombers have a decent record at the Gabba in recent times, winning their last game there in 2022, and winning two of their last three.

Final round Bombers historically don’t show up, and with the possibility of top four still on the line, the Lions won’t take any chances.

A top four chance will be impossible however if the Cats beat the Eagles in the game prior.
