The stakes are high for Richmond with a spot in the eight still up for grabs.

Six weeks ago, the Tigers’ season looked almost over, but with three straight wins right before the bye, suddenly Richmond is back in control of its own destiny.

Brisbane awaits at the Gabba on Thursday night, modern day rivals that have given the yellow and black all they can handle over the last few years.

The last two clashes (which includes a final) -ave been decided by seven points or less, while the Lions will also sense the importance with a chance to further cement a top four spot.

The Lions have come good over the last fortnight with wins over the Swans and Saints, but neither have been convincing.

Inaccuracy in front of goal and turnover issues continue to plague Chris Fagan’s side, areas Richmond could exploit based on their recent form.

The Tigers’ top stars have been firing, Dustin Martin and Trent Cotchin enjoying big games against St Kilda, while the back line has done well to hold their last two opponents to 70 points.

That said, the Lions are a different beast at the Gabba. Brisbane has won seven straight at home, not to mention the fact they’ve averaged four more scoring shots a game compared to Richmond.

Teams coming off a bye also have a horrible record this season, while it’s also hard to get overly excited about wins over GWS, Freo, and St Kilda.
