Hawthorn’s Sam Mitchell has been heavily backed to win the 2013 Brownlow Medal with punters slashing his odds from $21 into $15 at Sportingbet Australia.
Mitchell is now a clear-cut fifth favourite in betting behind Gary Ablett at $1.70, Joel Selwood at $4, Scott Pendlebury at $10 and Dane Swan at $12.

“It’s not the size of the bets but rather a huge volume of wagers that’s crunched Mitchell’s odds,” Sportingbet Australia spokesman Andrew Brown said.
“In the past 24 hours we’ve taken more bets for Mitchell than any other player and he’s attracted four-times more wagers than Ablett,” Brown said.
“Our analysts have Mitchell on 24 votes, which would put him six behind Ablett,” Brown said.
Mitchell is a clear-cut $1.35 favourite ahead of Luke Hodge at $3.60 to win the most votes of any Hawthorn player.
