Buttifant joins Blues’ AFL medical staff

Former Collingwood sports science director David Buttifant has joined AFL rivals Carlton, continuing his association with Blues’ coach Mick Malthouse.

Malthouse, who coached Collingwood from 2000 to 2011, guided the Blues to a semi-final in his first season at the club in 2013.

Buttifant has been appointed Carlton’s high-performance manager after a 13-year stint with Collingwood, the Blues announced on Wednesday.

“David is recognised as one of the best in his field, not only in Australia but globally,” Carlton’s football operations manager Andrew McKay said.

“His experience and track record throughout his time in the AFL system is exactly what our football club requires in its pursuit of success.

“We are very pleased to have landed such a highly regarded person for this important role within the football department.”
