Preview:

Carlton made it three wins on the trot last week with a comfortable 120 – 77 win over the Suns on the Gold Coast.

Each of these three wins had been against sides outside of the eight though and prior to this string of victories, Carlton lost four in a row – all against sides inside the eight.

This week, they face Fremanlte who sit fifth on the ladder, compared to Carlton’s ninth place one win behind eighth placed Port.

Fremantle, have only lost four games this year (Hawthorn, Geelong, Essendon and Richmond) and are coming off a 75 – 53 win against Adelaide last week.

They continue to go about their business in a very good style and, as they have done in previous encounters, will give Carlton plenty of opposition.

In fact these two sides have a recent history of close clashes with three of the past four clashes being decided by a margin of less than ten points.

Carlton may have had the opportunity to run themselves into some form over the past month but Fremantle’s record this year speaks for itself.

Dockers set AFL radar on Sydney’s White

After missing out on Mitch Clark, Harry Taylor, Jack Riewoldt and Travis Cloke in recent years, Fremantle will consider making a bid for out-of-contract Sydney forward Jesse White at the end of the season.

White has been in good touch in recent weeks, with the 25-year-old booting three goals against GWS in round 16 and then 4.1 against Richmond last Sunday.

The 196cm key forward has played just 63 games since making his debut in 2008, and was almost traded to Adelaide at the end of last season.

And with Sydney boasting the likes of Kurt Tippett, Adam Goodes, Sam Reid, Myke Pike, Lewis Roberts-Thomson and Shane Mumford on their list, White faces a stiff battle to establish himself as a regular in the Swans’ line-up.

Fremantle are crying out for another power forward to complement skipper Matthew Pavlich, who is nearing the end of his decorated career.

Dockers coach Ross Lyon confirmed the club was interested in White, but said they would face a fight to snare his services.

“He’d be one on the radar but I think everyone will be looking at him,” Lyon told Perth radio station 6PR.

“I laid on the couch and watched him on the weekend, and he played as well as I’d seen Jesse play.

“I don’t know Jesse at all, but he looks to have matured and been put through football school in a good academy where he’s now a very competent player.”

Fremantle have coped well without a regular power forward this season.

Pavlich has played just five games and still has one more match to serve of a three-game suspension, while fellow tall targets Aaron Sandilands, Jon Griffin and Kepler Bradley have also had serious injuries this year.

Lyon said the team needed to make better use of Sandilands, who will spend extended periods up forward for the rest of the year as he works his way back to full fitness following a hamstring injury.

Fremantle are just half a win adrift of fourth-placed Essendon, and can boost their chances of a top-four berth with victory over Carlton at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.

Dockers small forward Hayden Ballantyne will return from a hamstring injury, but All-Australian defender Luke McPharlin (calf) is still at least a fortnight away from resuming.
