Cats’ Menzel suffers another knee injury

Daniel Menzel’s terrible injury run has continued, with the luckless Geelong midfielder to have scans on his troublesome left knee.

Menzel, who has had three knee reconstructions since being taken with pick No.17 in the 2009 draft, was injured in the Cats’ VFL clash with Box Hill on Saturday.

The 21-year-old underwent controversial Ligament Augmentation and Reconstruction System (LARS) surgery in December.

Menzel ruptured his right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the Cats’ 2011 qualifying final against Hawthorn, denying him a potential berth in the club’s grand-final winning side.

In his VFL comeback match the following year, Menzel ruptured his left ACL.

After two traditional knee reconstructions, last year he opted for the LARS method – in which synthetic fibres, rather than a muscle graft, are used to reconstruct the ligament.

Former Geelong forward Cameron Mooney is on record as saying Menzel, if he is able to stay fit, is a potential Brownlow Medallist.
