GWS star Stephen Coniglio is closing on a stunning AFL grand final return.
The midfield ace was upbeat on Monday night about his prospects, with the next couple of days to determine whether he can prove his fitness for the clash with Richmond.
Coniglio, who re-signed with the Giants a month ago on a seven-year deal, has been out of action since July.
He suffered a knee injury in the round-17 loss to the Tigers and needed surgery.
But Coniglio has trained well and it appears if he can prove he is ready, the Giants are prepared to take the risk.
“I’m definitely hopeful, I’ve had a magic run thus far,” Coniglio said.
“I have a big 24-48 hours ahead of me, but my body’s feeling great.”
Coniglio was speaking at the Giants’ Brownlow Medal function in Sydney.
He was presented with the Jim Stynes Community Award during the count for his multicultural work in western Sydney.
