Crows forward Jenkins to miss an AFL month

Adelaide forward Josh Jenkins will miss between four and six weeks of the AFL season following a gruesome knee injury.

Jenkins suffered ligament and kneecap damage when hurt in Thursday night’s win against Richmond.

The 30-year-old’s right knee dramatically hyper-extended in the last minute of the game.

“Scans confirmed Josh has sustained a lateral ligament and capsular injury with bony bruising,” Adelaide’s medical services coordinator Steve Saunders said in a statement.

“We expect Josh to complete his rehabilitation in four to six weeks.”

With the Crows having their midseason bye next weekend, defensive duo Daniel Talia and Jake Kelly are expected to fit for Adelaide’s next match against Geelong on June 28.

The two backmen were forced out of the latter stages of Adelaide’s 33-point triumph against the Tigers with Talia troubled by a thigh injury and Kelly battling calf soreness.

Adelaide’s forward pocket Lachlan Murphy was also taken out of the Richmond match after having three teeth dislodged in a collision with his co-captain Taylor Walker in the opening term.

But Murphy was also expected to play against the Cats

The Crows climbed to fourth spot on the ladder by downing an undermanned Richmond.

The Tigers, missing a dozen injured frontliners, put up a brave fight before Adelaide kicked the last five goals of the match.

“Late in the game we broke away and I thought in the last quarter we played the footy we wanted to play so it was very pleasing,” Adelaide midfielder Matt Crouch told reporters on Friday.

“(The bye) comes at a good time for the boys.

“We’re in a good position now to launch into the second half of the season.

“The next three or four weeks sets up our season really so we’re looking forward to that.”

After their bye, the Crows meet Geelong away then play arch rival Port Adelaide ahead of fixtures against Gold Coast, Essendon, Carlton and St Kilda.
