Crows keen to catch up with Tippett

Adelaide’s Patrick Dangerfield reckons it would have been nice for the Crows to catch up with Kurt Tippett this weekend.

But Tippett will serve the last game of his 11-match ban when the Swans play his former club, who are still rankled by his acrimonious departure.

“It would be nice to be playing against him this week, that is for sure, but it is what it is,” Dangerfield told reporters in Adelaide on Monday.

Tippett will watch the game from his Sydney home, Swans coach John Longmire said.

“He’s obviously only a couple of weeks away, so he’s preparing fully to play himself and that’s what we’re trying to do with him,” Longmire told reporters in Sydney on Monday.

“Those blokes that haven’t played need some match conditioning, some specific match-type training, which we’ve been trying to get into him.

“But it’s not at the front of my mind this week. I’ve got the Adelaide Crows at the front of my mind and I’ll get into what Kurt’s doing in a couple of weeks’ time.”

Longmire expected to face a charged Adelaide, but wasn’t certain Tippett would be a factor.

“I’m expecting a hot reception off the 22 that we play, because that’s what we get off Adelaide,” he said.

“That’s what we plan for as coaches, that’s what we plan for as players; is the best type of football that Adelaide can play, which is a really strong brand of footy.”

But the Crows, ninth on the ladder, are yet to defeat a top-eight team this season – a concern for Dangerfield, who aged 23 will play his 100th AFL match on Saturday.

“We have played some really good footy against the better sides … but it would be nice to knock one of them off,” Dangerfield said.

“It’s a great opportunity this week against Sydney, the reigning premiers, to take a big scalp.

“If we play our best footy, we’re more than capable of matching it with them.”
