Demons land Langdon, Frosts leaves in AFL

Melbourne have shored up its wings, with Ed Langdon joining Adam Tomlinson as their AFL recruits.

Hawthorn also secured Demons defender Sam Frost on Friday as the trade period continued.

After securing Tomlinson as a free agent earlier this week, Melbourne have struck a trade with Fremantle to sign Langdon.

The Demons gave up picks 22 and 79 as well as a future second-round draft selection to secure Langdon.

Melbourne also secured pick 26 and a future round-four selection.

Langdon has played 68 games in five seasons at Fremantle, including all 22 this season.

“Our focus during this period has been to bring two targeted players, both with elite endurance, into the club,” said Demons football boss Josh Mahoney.

“Ed’s running capacity is in the top echelon of the league and that is evident in games.

“We had nearly 15 players go through the wing position this year, so to be able to have both Adam and Ed join us and play predominately on the wing will give us some good stability in the midfield.”

Frost is joining his third club, after 21 games at GWS and 70 at Melbourne.

He was one of few Melbourne players to feature in all 22 games in their disastrous season, when they plummeted from the preliminary final last year to second-bottom.

Melbourne also traded picks 42, 61 and their future fourth-round selection to Hawthorn, while receiving pick 50 and the Hawks’ future second-rounder in return.

“We were not in the position to offer Sam a long-term contract, so we were comfortable with him exploring his options and we’re pleased he has found a position at Hawthorn,” Mahoney said.

Frost is the second Melbourne key defender in the last few years to join Hawthorn.

He started at the Demons in 2015, the same season that James Frawley switched from Melbourne to the Hawks.
