Docker Brad Hill sorry for ‘silly’ mistake

Fremantle midfielder Brad Hill admits his recent off-field misdemeanour was “silly” and has vowed never to repeat the mistake.

Hill was dumped from the club’s leadership group and banned for one AFL match for committing a series of breaches during a visit to a Scarborough bar on May 6.

The 24-year-old allegedly breached a police move-on notice and gave police a false name after trying to jump a barrier to get into the pub.

Hill also broke team policy by consuming alcohol while injured.

The former Hawk also failed to inform the club of his run-in with police.

Fremantle only found out about it several days later when a TV station contacted the club asking about the incident.

Hill, who was also fined $5000 and ordered to undergo an alcohol education program, aims to win back the trust of the player group.

“Obviously I did a silly thing and I’m not happy about it,” Hill told Nova 937 radio in Perth.

“I don’t want to do something like that ever again.

“Everyone saw what happened with the fine and (getting booted) out of the leadership group. It wasn’t good news.

“But the only thing I can do now is get back out there and play my best footy for the club and help them out as much as possible.”

Hill has been grounded since suffering heavy bruising to his left knee in round two.

The club initially hoped Hill would miss only a week or two but that has stretched to eight weeks.

Hill is still listed as a TBA on the club’s official injury list but the three-time premiership star hopes to be back playing again soon.

“I started running yesterday. I’ll run again tomorrow, Sunday and hopefully I start doing a few drills next week with the group,” Hill said.

“So hopefully not too far away (that) I’m back playing in the next few weeks.”

Fremantle (4-5) aim to bounce back from last week’s 59-point loss to Sydney when they host North Melbourne (5-4) at Optus Stadium on Sunday.
