The AFL future of Josh Mellington is up in the air after the speedy forward was delisted by Fremantle on Thursday.

Mellington, taken with pick No.56 in the 2010 national draft, played just six games for the Dockers over three seasons before being told of his axing.

The 20-year-old couldn’t secure a move back to Victoria during the recent trade period, and Fremantle released a statement saying they’ll consider selecting Mellington during the upcoming national draft.

Mellington impressed during the opening three games of 2012, but a serious hamstring injury cut his season short.

The 188cm speedster played a key role in West Perth’s WAFL premiership this season, but he could only break through for one game for the Dockers.

Fremantle also delisted Jesse Crichton, Peter Faulks and Alex Forster.

Young midfielder Jayden Pitt was forced to retired due to a heart condition, while Viv Michie was traded to Melbourne.

The Dockers upgraded forward Matt Taberner to the senior list, but rookies Alex Howson and Haiden Schloithe were cut.

Fremantle reached the grand final last season, and hope the arrivals of former Essendon forward Scott Gumbleton and ex-Demon Colin Sylvia will help them claim the flag in 2014.
