Dockers overlook McCarthy for AFL recall

Fremantle have overlooked forward Cam McCarthy for an AFL recall, while Adelaide have lost spearhead Tom Lynch to injury for Saturday’s clash with West Coast at Adelaide Oval.

McCarthy looked to be in the box seat to earn a call-up for Sunday’s match against Brisbane after Matt Taberner suffered a season-ending foot injury.

But Dockers coach Ross Lyon has instead opted for a quicker set-up, handing speedy wingman Brett Bewley a debut in the only change to the side.

The Lions recalled Luke Hodge and Lewis Taylor in place of Jarrod Berry (knee) and Rhys Mathieson (suspended).

Lynch was originally named to take on West Coast, but was ruled out after suffering a minor hamstring injury at training on Thursday.

Surprisingly, the veteran forward has been replaced in the side by wingman Paul Seedsman and not Josh Jenkins, who booted six goals in state league ranks last weekend.

GWS have been boosted by the return of Stephen Coniglio from a finger injury as they attempt to end their MCG hoodoo in Sunday’s match against Melbourne.

Isaac Cumming also returns, with Zac Williams (hamstring) and Daniel Lloyd (axed) the two to make way.

Melbourne named Corey Wagner to replace Alex Neal-Bullen (concussion).

Veteran defender Jordan Lewis has recovered from an ankle injury, but will be forced to push his case for selection via the VFL.

Carlton have made four changes in the wake of last week’s 93-point loss to GWS.

Marc Murphy (ribs) will miss Sunday’s clash with St Kilda through injury, while Harrison Macreadie, Lochie O’Brien and Will Setterfield were all axed.

Kade Simpson, Lachie Plowman, David Cuningham and Matthew Kennedy all return.

St Kilda made just one change, bringing in Ben Long for Ben Paton (managed).
