Dockers ruckman tipped for big 2020 season

Fremantle star Rory Lobb says Dockers teammate Sean Darcy is destroying him in the rucks in pre-season training and has tipped the 21-year-old ruckman to make his mark in the AFL.

Darcy has racked up more hitouts than any other player in their first 26 AFL games since making his debut against Geelong in 2017, and averaged 27.3 hitouts over 11 games in 2019.

He is set to play a bigger role in 2020 with the retirement of club great Aaron Sandilands.

“He’s (Darcy) been destroying me in the ruck in the pre-season,” Lobb told AFL.com.au.

“He’s definitely hard to move around in the contest and the hitouts. Once he gets around the ground a bit more, I’m sure he’ll make his mark on the competition.”

Lobb, who finished eighth in the club’s best and fairest this year after joining the Dockers from Greater Western Sydney, is also eager to create an attacking connection with teammates Jesse Hogan and Matt Taberner.

The Dockers trio only played together twice in the forward line in 2019, mainly due to injuries.

“We’ve only played probably two games where all three of us are up forward, so we’ve just got to work on our connection, but that will happen once we’re out on the track.”
