Dogs forward Travis Cloke retires from AFL

Western Bulldogs forward Travis Cloke has announced his AFL retirement after falling out of favour with his adopted club.

The 30-year-old had a year left to run on his contract and was keen to continue playing.

But with the Bulldogs recruiting key forward Josh Schache during the trade period, Cloke was advised he would have limited opportunities in 2018.

“The fire was still there to play on, but I appreciate the club being honest about my prospects of playing senior football next year,” Cloke said in a statement on Wednesday.

Cloke grappled with mental health issues over the past year and managed just 10 games for the Dogs after being traded by Collingwood at the end of last season.

A premiership player with the Magpies in 2010 and a dual All-Australian, he played 256 games and booted 452 career goals.
