‘Dons to meet on Hird’s future

Essendon’s board will meet on Wednesday to discuss the future of suspended coach James Hird.

His future at the AFL club is uncertain following a television interview with his wife Tania that was aired last week.

She again blasted the AFL over its handling of Essendon’s supplements scandal and said her husband was made a scapegoat.

Club chairman Paul Little made it clear on Friday that Essendon are unhappy about her comments.

“Essendon wish to advise the matter relating to James Hird has been referred to a board meeting on Wednesday,” the club said in a short statement.

Hird is serving a 12-month suspension until late August, but Essendon have contracted him until the end of the 2016 season.

He is currently overseas on a study trip.
