Eagles recruit moves on from COVID breach

West Coast recruit Zac Langdon is determined to make a good impression at his new AFL club – quarantine mishaps aside.

Langdon was involved in an accidental COVID-19 breach while quarantining in Western Australia just weeks after being traded from GWS to West Coast for pick No.54.

The Eagles had organised a treadmill to be delivered to Langdon’s residence.

But a breach occurred when two delivery workers carried it through the house in order to reach the outdoor patio area.

Langdon admitted to some nerves when it first happened.

“It was not the greatest start,” Langdon said.

“It was an honest little mistake and I’m glad no one got affected by it. I’m glad it’s all done now, and we move on from it.”

Langdon joined West Coast’s first-to-fourth year players for the start of pre-season training on Monday.

Alex Witherden, who was recruited from Brisbane, was also out on the track.

Eagles skipper Luke Shuey made a surprise appearance despite the senior players not due back until later in the pre-season.

Langdon booted 23 goals across 31 games for the Giants, but the small forward has his sights set on some midfield time at West Coast.

Meeting Shuey at training gave Langdon a glimpse of the standards he needs to live up to.

“He’s a big contested beast, and I can learn a lot off him,” Langdon said.

“I had a chat to him afterwards and asked him why he was here (so early).

“He really wants to get the most out of this year, and meet the young boys as well.

“To see the captain out there is pretty inspiring. I just want to put my best foot forward and show him that I really want a place in this team as well.

“I’ve been brought in as a forward, but I really want to get into the midfield as well.”
