Ebert wants new AFL deal with Port

Durable midfielder Brad Ebert wants to soon sign a fresh AFL contract with Port Adelaide.

Ebert is among a group of 17 Port players due to fall off-contract at the end of the season, but has no intention of testing the market.

Port have kept contract renegotiations on hold until the second half of the season and Ebert has no qualms about the club’s stance.

“The club were talking they were going to wait until the midpoint of the year to start going down that path of contract talks,” he said.

“For me personally, I’m not too worried about where it’s at. I’m sure that will all happen in due course.

“For the time being I will just make sure I keep playing some good footy.

“I have loved playing for this footy club so the sooner a deal can get done, the better. It will be brilliant to just keep playing here.”

Ebert, who started his career at West Coast, will play his 200th AFL game on Thursday night when Port host Hawthorn at Adelaide Oval.

The eighth-placed Power will be seeking to rebound from last week’s narrow away loss to Geelong.

It was the club’s fourth defeat of the season – all by 31 points or less, and all against likely finalists Adelaide, Greater Western Sydney, West Coast and the Cats.

“It is frustrating but there are little areas to tighten up that will improve that (record),” Ebert said.

“And we’re confident that we can make those adjustments and we’ll be right.”
