Franklin: I want to stay at Hawks

Lance Franklin says he wants to stay at Hawthorn as he weighs up his AFL future.

Franklin becomes a free agent at the end of this season and Greater Western Sydney have made it clear they are willing to put up a massive offer to entice him north.

The Giants reportedly are prepared to offer a six-year deal worth $10 million for the superstar full forward.

Hawthorn have tabled a revised offer which is said to be the biggest player contract in the club’s history.

“I want to stay at Hawthorn – I love the footy club, they’ve been a great football club for me for nearly nine years,” Franklin said.

“As I said at the start of the season, I will make my decision at the end of the season.

“My management is in talks with the football club at the moment and that’s where it stays.”

While Franklin’s comments on Thursday do not mean he is staying put, it is the first time he has said he wants to remain at Hawthorn.

His future is one of the biggest AFL stories this year.

It was a rare media appearance for Franklin, who was launching his own range of fashion boots.
